Alfred W. McCune was born in India and raised in Utah. He became wealthy through mining and railroads. Alfred and his wife Elizabeth constructed the grand mansion overlooking downtown and the Mormon Temple. The McCune Mansion hosted extravagant parties and political meetings. Later, the McCunes donated their home to the Mormon Church. It served as a music school and then Brigham Young University’s Salt Lake City Center. Eventually, it became home to a modern dance school. After years of neglect, the McCarthey family bought and restored it, converting it into a luxurious event venue.
Shortly after the mansion became a music school, people heard unexplained organ music playing inside. Voices and footsteps are common despite no one else being around. Doors lock and unlock mysteriously, and cold spots appear throughout. Lights flicker frequently. During a family Christmas celebration, lights repeatedly switched themselves on. A calm, curious male spirit dressed in a black cape has appeared briefly to visitors. Another spirit, a playful little girl in a gown, moves through mirrors and leaves footprints in rooms. She attends weddings and rearranges decorations overnight, resembling a girl depicted in a portrait inside the mansion.
