The Driskill Hotel History
Founded in 1886, the esteemed establishment known as the Driskill Hotel, hailed by the Austin American-Statesman as one of Texas’ most splendid accommodations, was inaugurated by Col. Jesse Driskill. Noteworthy within its opulent lobby is the portrait of Colonel Driskill, meticulously refurbished to showcase two artfully concealed bullet holes, remnants from a notable duel that transpired during the early 1900s. Presently, this venerable edifice stands as the oldest functioning hotel in all of Austin, Texas.
Paranormal Activity
The Driskill Hotel is home to a haunted room, where tragedy repeatedly strikes. One story tells of a woman who, heartbroken after being abandoned at the altar, checked into Room 525. Using her ex-fiancé’s credit card, she indulged in a shopping spree and returned to the room with numerous bags. That night, she tragically took her own life in the bathtub, holding a gun and pillow. Since then, guests have reported seeing a ghostly figure carrying parcels and a gun, disappearing into Room 525 without opening the door.
