Once occupied by Andrew Jackson, the 7th President of the United States, is this grand mansion. Situated on a sprawling piece of land measuring 1,120 acres, it is famously known as the Hermitage. Jackson himself took charge of cultivating the land and resided on the very grounds where the original Hermitage stood. However, as time went on, he had another mansion constructed on the same property. Over 460 bodies are buried on this land.
Slavery was very common back when Andrew Jackson occupied the Hermitage. Now late at night, the haunting echoes of chains being dragged across the front porch can still be heard, as apparitions of slaves from years gone by, and present-day, gather on the balcony facing the master bedroom once frequented by President Jackson and subsequent generations of his family.
