Cashtown Inn began as a roadside tavern in the late 1700s. Owner Peter Marck insisted on cash only, and the village soon took the same name. When the Civil War reached Pennsylvania, Confederate troops seized the inn on their push toward Gettysburg. Generals A. P. Hill and Henry Heth used its parlor as a command post while bakers and surgeons worked below. Limbs and bread piled up together in the brick-lined cellar. After the battle the army withdrew, yet the structure endured. Its story ties the quiet hamlet to one of America’s bloodiest clashes, and guests still sleep in its four original rooms and three added suites.
Guests catch orbs and skeletal shapes on camera. Heavy knocks rattle doors late at night, yet no one stands outside. Lights blink, doors lock randomly, and packed suitcases appear without help. Vacationers felt booted steps cross the floor, then pressure on their mattress, as if someone was leaning on the bed. Activity peaks on July 1, 2, and 3, which is the battle’s anniversary.
