Situated in the heart of Portland’s Forest Park, The Witch’s Castle, also referred to as the Stone House or Macleay Park Shelter, is a two-story edifice. Constructed in the 1930s, this stone structure served as a public toilet and pavilion for hikers. This is not actually a castle, but just a nickname.
In contemporary times, hikers assert that they perceive eerie sounds of phantom flushing toilets and an overall sensation of profound uneasiness. There are also accounts of luminous lights enveloping the edifice and vanishing into the surrounding forest, as well as sporadic sightings of fully embodying apparitions of females and children. The prevalent belief is that these occurrences are the lingering remnants of the historic dispute that took place on the old Balch property.
