Dundas Castle History
In the mysterious Catskill Mountains of Roscoe, New York, Dundas Castle, also known as Craig-E-Clair Castle, was constructed in 1924. Its origins date back to the early 1880s when architect Bradford Lee Gilbert designed it as a summer lodge. The name Craig-E-Clair was inspired by a Scottish town, likely chosen due to Gilbert’s wife’s Scottish roots. After Gilbert’s death in 1911, the property passed to Maurice Sternbeck, then Ralph Wurts-Dundas in 1915. Wurts-Dundas began its construction but died in 1921, and his wife, Josephine, was institutionalized in 1922, never living in the castle.
Paranormal Activity
It has been rumored that the castle is still haunted by the spirit of Josephine Dundas, perpetually trapping unfamiliar visitors within its forsaken premises. Additionally, witnesses claim to have seen Ralph Dundas aimlessly wandering through the melancholic halls of the castle. There are also accounts suggesting that, during full moon nights, the three ponds shaped like hearts on the estate are mysteriously filled with blood.
