The Shanley Hotel began as a modest inn in the mid-1800s. Ownership changed a few times until a devastating fire reduced it to ashes in the early 1900’s. The hotel was quickly rebuilt after 6 months and later purchased by James Shanley, an Irish immigrant who modernized it with a bowling alley and billiard hall. He married Beatrice on-site, but tragedy followed when they lost three children. A barber’s daughter also perished after falling down a well that still stands nearby. They also housed a bordello during Prohibition, which eventually led to a raid. Present day the hotel is now owned by paranormal enthusiasts.
Visitors report strong floral scents when no one is around and shadowy figures in dark halls. Many believe Beatrice roams the corridors, mourning her lost children. Some claim to see Esther, her sister, on the second floor. Others hear phantom laughter from a child who once lived there. Guests often experience whistling that appears to come from nowhere. A ghostly bouncer called Frank is said to grab or playfully choke visitors. People also speak of a ghost cat named Sweet Thing, which has been caught in a convincing evidence video.
