Rolling Hills Asylum began as a county poorhouse in the early 19th century. It sheltered orphans, the elderly, and those with mental or physical challenges. Residents who could work tended farmland, keeping costs near a dollar per week. One record shows that care cost about $1.08 weekly, offset by produce, livestock, and handcrafted wares. A stone wing confined the insane, though many were later transferred elsewhere. The institution expanded over time, adding a morgue and burying those without family in a now-forgotten cemetery. It finally closed in the 1970s, and its residents were moved to newer facilities. Rolling Hills Asylum is now open for paranormal events.
Many report Roy’s towering figure roaming the halls. He was a gentle giant who once protected the staff. Others encounter Nurse Emmie, known for her cruelty and rumored dark rituals. Hattie’s Room still echoes with a soft hello, echoing her constant calls for help. Shadowy shapes roam the second-floor dormitory, peeking from doorways, and even scurrying across the floor. In solitary confinement, visitors feel sick or get shoved. The morgue hosts disembodied voices and a violent spirit who pushes people to the floor.
