The structure marked where the Susquehanna River meets the Chesapeake Bay. John O’Neill, a veteran of the War, was the first keeper, serving from 1827 until his death in 1838. In 1975, it was decommissioned. After restoration the Keeper’s House was open to the public again as a museum. The Concord Point Lighthouse is open on special occasions for tours.
Strange paranormal occurrences began in 1889. A keeper described a figure with glowing eyes staring through the lantern room. This presence left a floral scent, unlike the usual oil smell. Locals and tourists have seen a slow moving shadowy figure in the tower’s upper windows. A dark presence is also reported near the memorial cannon and the base of the Lighthouse. In 1994, a murder victim’s body was found on the grounds. Some believe his spirit remains.
