Situated on a coastal barrier island in Georgia, the Jekyll Island Club Resort was established in 1887 as a sanctuary for affluent American families who enjoyed hunting. This exclusive destination provided a tranquil winter retreat until the outbreak of World War II, which led to its abandonment. The restoration efforts undertaken in 1986 unveiled the club’s inherent allure and sophistication, which are apparent in the abundant presence of intricate art glass, ornamental wood craftsmanship, and exquisite Rumford fireplaces.
On the second floor of the main building, one can witness the continued presence of an unidentified male individual, previously serving as a bellman during the 1920s. Sporting a Jekyll Island Club cap and a suit uniform from that era, this specter has gained notoriety for his habit of knocking on the doors of just-wedded couples during their honeymoon. Astonishingly, he presents the groom with a freshly pressed suit before disappearing into the ether.
