Investigated on
The construction of the Old Point Loma Lighthouse was finished in 1855 and it served for 36 years before being decommissioned in 1891. Due to its position causing issues with fog, it obstructed views for ships navigating the waters. Keepers had to resort to firing shotguns as a warning signal, at times during such conditions. Over time it fell into disrepair but was later restored and is now part of the Cabrillo National Monument where visitors can explore its history as a lighthouse keeper’s home turned museum.
Guests often recount incidents such as loud footsteps and eerie moans. Some even mention witnessing figures, on the staircase or feeling sudden cold patches. There’s a belief that the spirit of Robert Decatur Israel still wanders the grounds after all these years. Others suggest that perhaps Juan RodrÃguez Cabrillos presence is felt in this place. Furthermore the nearby Point Loma Rosecrans Cemetery might also be adding to the atmosphere here.
